Fire Protection and Risk Mitigation

A shared responsibility between owners and the Ranch

    • The most important message for the owners is the need to maintain a defensible space around their house and to harden it against flying ambers.

    • The Ranch through its Fire Protection Subcommittee can help the owners educate themselves about best practices and local implementation details. We are developing for that purpose this website linked to the KRCA website.

    • Kohala Ranch has also to assess the fire hazards on the Ranch, mitigate risks as much as possible and assure that its infrastructure will be resilient in case of major fire

  • Another area of Ranch responsibility is the alignment of the Architectural Control Committee (ACC) rules with the requirements of a fire prone area. We are just starting to work on this topic. We understand that the ACC already gives the Firewise brochure to owners planning to build on the Ranch. We are looking forward to working with ACC to develop further alignment of the rules with best practices for dry savannah lands.
