Kohala Ranch Community Association

Living in flammable grasslands

As we enjoy living in the grasslands of the ranch, we need to remain aware of the risk of fire and to take appropriate measures to prevent fires, mitigate the impact of any fire, and be ready to act in case of fire.

We are one of many grasslands communities nationwide, including several in the Kohala area.   Best practices for such communities have been developed over the years, under the aegis of Firewise and, locally, the Hawai'i Wildfire Management Organization, HWMO (see their excellent Brochure for Hawai'i).

This website, maintained by the Fire Protection Subcommittee of the Kohala Ranch Community Association,  provides summaries of best practices, practical advice for owners on the ranch, general references, and relevant updates.
